I created 3 zines for the exam unit of my A Level Art.
It is a 10-week process of planning and testing, ending in a 15 hour exam to complete your final piece.
I chose the stimulus of ‘Habitat’ (given by the exam board) which I interpreted as home, and my project explored the relationship that teenagers (17-18) have with their bedroom.
Most 17-18 year olds still live with their parents, so their bedroom is a small pocket of space within their parents house that they can personalise and decorate however they want.
My aim was to photograph 3 bedrooms with quite different aesthetics and the people within them.
I also wrote questions about the relationship they have with their bedroom and the objects within them which I got them to handwrite answers to, this added an extra personal element to each zine.
I collated the images and text and presented it in the form of 3 zines. I bound the zines with embroidery thread in 3 different colours, 1 for each person, to hold the pages together and add a further personal touch.
